excellent
This is a great video whomever wish to learn the scenario tool using MS Excel, very helpful to build custom build calculation which sometime difficult within the actual simulation environment. Recently, I was trying to find pump NPSH calculation at different flows of pump suction - earlier I used to plug manually and try to find out the values and put them in a manual spreadsheet, which sometime causes error and confusion. After watching this video, I started my case with little "fear" and "hesitation" in mind - but then strictly following the steps shown here, I can finally build the pump friction curve and profile of NPSHa vs Pump flow. The guidance given in the help file might be little tricky but watching this video can make the thing easier. Extremely thankful for this video, and a big thank to the team who developed the Excel "scenario" tool. I recently verified my process with my BRE support contact and got their blessings. Please provide more videos like this!👍👏
Video is too.blur to see...not clear enough.
Hello. This video is 3 years old and is a webinar that we held through WebEx during COVID. WebEx limits the resolution so it's as good as we could make the recording at the time. We apologize for the issues and will endeavor to do better as we proceed. Stay tuned!
Hi sir...what is the meaning of no driving force in this case and what the parameter itself??thx
Howdy Rizal! We need some context to understand what is being asked. What is the topic of discussion in the video that sparked this question?
This video was done using ProMax 4.0 in 2017. The current version, ProMax 6.0 has several improvements.
What is the tool you use for the design of the reactive column? visio only?
Howdy. I'm not sure I understand your question but I'll do the best I can with the information you provided. The tool is ProMax which has Visio embedded into our product. You would use the Column Block to do most of that work.
Awesome lecture 🎉👍
Amazing explanation
Glad it was helpful!
Is there a Promax model for tank losses for API 2000?
Hi Nina. We currently do not have a separate tool for calculating equations from API 2000.
What version of Promax is this video based on?
Nina, this simulation used ProMax version 5.0.19263.
this is use promax version?
The current release is ProMax 6.0.
How to get promax software
Hi. Please contact us at sales at bre.com and we'll be glad to help.
Can yu do with ion exchange resin to remove Hss from amine solvents
It is not currently possible to model ion exchanger with the membrane block. If you model reactions to create the HSS, then you would use a divider block to remove the products of that reaction. HSS formation reactions are not currently modeled automatically in ProMax, so you would have to provide the necessary reaction information and possibly add user defined components to your ProMax installation to fully model HSS formation in ProMax currently.
Thanks
Define a hypothetical component in promax

For the last distillation column, water gets released at the bottom as a liquid and 98% methanol vapor is released at the top and is directed to the recycle stream. How does it exactly turn into a liquid stream to mix with the liquid methanol feed?
Assuming you are referring to slide 4 of the presentation, the methanol recovered as overhead product from the methanol recovery tower is completely condensed. Part of the liquid is used as reflux to the column, the rest is the recovered methanol that is recycled back to the front of the process. Thus, there is no vapor in the stream that is recycled back to the front.
@@BRE_ProMax and on the same slide of the presentation, after the reactive distillation column, the condensed MeOH and butene azeotrope is cooled further by a cooler and gets sent to the water wash column. does the MeOH butene mix stay as a condensed liquid when entering the water wash column?
@@modimoussa33 The overhead vapor is run through a heat exchanger where the vapor is cooled until is condenses. This is how the liquid is formed. If you need to know the exact physical processes of how condensation works, we recommend that you look into topics like “states of matter”, or “physical changes”.
@@BRE_ProMax I understand how the liquid is formed, but my question was if the overhead, after condensation, stays as a liquid when entering the water wash column
@@modimoussa33 The Water Wash Column in the drawing is a liquid/liquid contactor. There is no vapor present in the column at all. Water is the heavy liquid that goes in the top and comes out the bottom, while the unreacted butanes are the light liquid that goes in the bottom and out the top. The water wash is primarily present to remove the methanol in the unreacted butanes so that the unreacted methanol can be recycled an make the MTBE process more efficient and less costly.

This video is so dry
Thanks a lot. In which platform you suggest to animate the simulations we create in ProMax?
Hi Shouka, we're a little confused by your question. We can't think of reason to "animate" the simulation so we have no recommendation based on this conclusion. If you're speaking of "automation", any language that can create COM linkages would work. Thanks for watching. If you have any further questions, please reach out to BR&E at +1 979-776-5220 or support@bre.com
why is MTBE the bottem product of the reactive destillation column and not methanol because the boiling point of methanol is higher then MTBE?
In the reactive distillation process for the production of MTBE, the overhead product is an azeotrope of unreacted C4 components and methanol. The methanol concentration in the feed to the column is carefully controlled so that the azeotrope (collected as the top product) contains the bulk of unreacted methanol, and the MTBE is taken as the bottoms product.
Can you send a boiling liquid (20 - bubble point air) to an expander?
While most hydraulic expanders do not work in the 2-phase region, expanders that work in this region have been developed and used. There are many classes of hydraulic expanders that work up to about 10% vapor, but there are some designs reported for the LNG field that will work across the entire range of phases. Below are some links to articles that might be useful to you: oaktrust.library.tamu.edu/bitstream/handle/1969.1/162590/Fifteen%20Years%20of%20Field%20Experience%20in%20LNG%20Expander%20Technology.pdf?sequence=1 docs.lib.purdue.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2859&context=iracc
Great Session. Just have a question! What if the atmospheric storage tank is an openly vented system and can have Air also going IN and OUT based on in-breathing and out-breathing conditions. On that case, how can we estimate the vented gas composition from tank? Thanks.
When the system is set to vent to the atmosphere, the volume of air entering and leaving the system will be dependent on the breather vent and vacuum pressures. However, the EPA’s AP 42 documentation does not require the components in the air to be reported with the emissions. Using the ProMax Tank Losses Stencil, you can input all of the required information about your tank battery, including the breather vent and vacuum pressure settings. ProMax will then use AP 42 equations to calculate the working and breathing emissions for the system as demonstrated in the video. If you would like to discuss this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at 979-776-5220 or email us at support@bre.com!
